Department Overview

Adapted Physical Education (APE) is a special education service that provides school-aged children with special needs access to the general physical education curriculum. On an itinerant basis, the APE staff services all schools in the district, including schools in outlying rural areas.

  • APE staff services all schools in the district, including schools in rural areas.
  • Services are provided weekly to students identified as needing intervention.
  • Students’ needs are determined through referral process, assessment, and IEP team.
  • A student must be special education eligible and accessing PE.
  • Students with disabilities access physical education the same as their peers.
